Pharmatek Increases Capabilities in cGMP Manufacturing

Addition of New Equipment Enables Company to Support Larger Scale Manufacturing Operations

SAN DIEGO , Calif. – March 20, 2012- Pharmatek Laboratories, Inc., a premier contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) supporting the pharmaceutical industry, announced that it has added new equipment into its cGMP manufacturing facility. The company has purchased a Vector VFC- Lab 3 Fluid Bed Dryer, a Vector GMX B-Pilot 65 liter wet granulator and a 3 cu. ft. V-blender with bin blending capability. The implementation of this new equipment has increased Pharmatek’s overall Phase II production scale.

“We are excited to add these new technologies because they allow us to address the challenges of powder flow and compressibility at a Phase II scale,” stated Kevin Rosenthal, Director of Manufacturing at Pharmatek Laboratories, Inc. “At Pharmatek, we are committed to the continued support of our clients as their programs have grown within our cGMP manufacturing facility. With the addition of the fluid bed dryer, wet granulator and V-blending system, we are not only increasing our Phase II production scale, but also providing a variety of granulation, drying and blending strategies as our clients prepare to move beyond Phase II manufacturing.”

With solvent rating and jacketed bowls, the GMX B-Pilot 65 liter wet granulator allows the handling of hygroscopic compounds and temperature specific formulations. In addition, the wet granulator is size matched with the Fluid Bed Dryer, allowing for a continuous process train at a Phase II scale. With the acquisition of the VFC-Lab 3 Fluid Bed Dryer, Pharmatek has expanded its wurster coating and top spray drying granulation capabilities, allowing for larger tabletting and capsule operations. Both the wet granulator and fluid bed dryer technologies compliment the new 3 cu ft. V blender, which has the ability to adapt to other blending technologies.

“If we want to be considered the most client-centric CDMO, we must listen to our clients’ needs and increase our capabilities to support their projects,” said Timothy Scott, President of Pharmatek. “Supporting larger scale manufacturing operations is just another way we are able to offer our clients the best solutions for their development and manufacturing needs.”
